while your investigating drones be sure to look into dji and geofencing
there's a android app called "hover" that has a lot of good info and the latest news on drones

I believe my next photo purchase might be a drone rather than a new body or lens. I don't need wall sized prints but would like to produce 16 x 20's. I have seen some 6000.00 to 12,000.00 units which would work nicely but out of my budget range! Anyone with a suggestion for a drone 2000.00 or less that does what I'm asking for please let me know.

Thanks,
Mike

I have a DJI Phantom 4 Pro+ that I totally enjoy! Totally self contained, i.e.: doesn't require a smart phone or tablet for operation. Has a 1" sensor, the same sensor as in my Sony RX10 III & IV, which gives excellent 4K video and image quality. Has an real 25-30 minutes of flying time per battery charge. I bought three batteries to keep it in the air for over an hour or so in areas with limited access to power.

I shoot mainly landscape and panorama/mosaic images with mine. An example of a three image mosaic below:

Enjoy!

Thanks all for the great response! Looks like the Mavic 2 Pro is the way to go. I plan to purchase one of these within the next six months.

If you wait six months, you may be buying a Mavic 3 Pro (or whatever the next-gen model is called), which is ok. It will be even better. :-)

This technology is ever changing.

True. We hope this technology thing doesn't start going backwards!

So everyone is aware, Effective February 23 2019 the FAA is requiring registration numbers be displayed on the exterior of the drone. This will probably be based on the size and weight of the Drone. Check with the local FAA office. Also the license a previous poster mention is good for a year only. I took the course and exam to see what it was about, passed and received my certification to be a drone operator, I let my certification lapse so when and if I decide to get a drone I will renew my certification. Anyone can get the certification whether you operate a drone or not. This certification is for drones of a certain size and weight and if it is going to be used commercially. With the new regulations I am sure the course content will change to reflect the new regulations. Any questions contact the FAA or go there web site www.FAA.gov.

As I mentioned before, I am partial to Autel Evo ; thought you might like to see a sample of their photographic ability. Check out this you tube video. Also you might want to consider the fact that DJI would not permit it ; a no fly zone..... Evo allows owners to be more responsible when and where they fly. I have read on the forums where many have gone out to fly and DJI. considers it a nfz and they are grounded. I am not a DKI hater just mentioning things as I remember from my experiences.
