Mr Bill, a DDL shows that the photo shows not only the detail but that it is also pretty sharp.

Looks more like a Black Bear that is brown in color. The hump is not there and the face is too skinny and pointed. The Black Bear can range in color anywhere from the nearly white Ghost Bears to dark brown or black. I have many pictures of Kodiak (a subspecies of Brown Bear) cubs ranging in age from spring cubs to juveniles that have reached the age of having to live on their own, and all have these characteristics. The Brown Bears can be any color in the same range as the Black Bear.

i'm sure you are right, it is an immature black, but for the purpose of a heading, since he is brown, I thought Little Brown Bear would be adequate.

thanks for looking in.....

visited your town last spring while my wife was on a gardens tour of the area and I was the accompanying photog. hadn't been to Philla d for a while. always reminds me of our history. and the gardens weren't bad, either).

So much history here, residents forget how special this place really was/is. Next time, give me a yell, my friend.

That is probably not a problem with this bear as it looks to be old enough for momma to have sent it packing.
