A shot of a drake merganser. I love photographing ducks, especially in flight! I spent 3 hrs observing a flock of mixed ducks flying back and forth over a small ice dam. This gave me an opportunity to attempt to get some flight shots. The problem was knowing how close to get in order to get a fair image with a 400 mm lens without scaring them.

I found that if you are patient and still enough , the birds will eventually treat you as a part of the landscape. I've stood with my nose almost pressed against a bird feeder while the birds circled all around it (and me) before landing and feeding
