Well, I think I might know why there were two Kestrel Hawks sitting close to the Eagle’s nest (see my previous post "Two Kestrel Hawks"). One of the Eagle chicks is on the ground about 10 feet from the tree. As of now I’m assuming there are two chicks, I’ll know soon enough if that assumption is correct. The chick on the ground appears to be OK; evidently the bird’s wings were strong enough to ease the fall from the nest. There was a light rain falling when I was there and a parent was sitting on a branch above the grounded chick. This is a good sign … usually during inclement weather the birds hunker down in the nest. I will visit the nest site over the next few days and then I must leave for a Whale Watching trip that has been planned for. Let's say a prayer for the eagle chick.
