Castlegrande, Bellinzona, Switzerland - 2010

Bellinzona sits at the top of Lago Maggiore (a few miles to the left), home to three ancient fortifications beginning in the first century BC and alternately Italian, French, and Swiss as local rivalries decided over the next two thousand years.
In their various configurations, the castles guarded the major routes through Switzerland into France and beyond over the St.Gotthard Pass and into eastern Switzerland and then Austria over the San Bernadino Pass.
This Nikon D60 JPG of lower Castlegrande shot from the wall of castle Montebello was redone with ACR to crop for a wider landscape view.
