I'm looking for a 150 - 500 mm Sigma telephoto lens for my Nikon D7000. Has anyone dealt with Henry's in Canada? They have this lens brand new for $899.99 on eBay through Henry's. I've also been looking at the 50-500 mm Sigma and just can't justify the cost!
I have Nikons 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 G VR, 55-200 mm 4-5.6 G ED VR and 50 mm 1.8.
Anyway, I want to be able to take nice, clear landscape, bird and wildlife photos. We are also going to Hawaii in November. Any suggestions?
Several users here use the (big mamma) 150-500, including myself. It is a big heavy lens and unless your a big guy, it should be tripod mounted. I love the lens, but have found I have not used it as much as I thought I would do so. I will use it at a large horse show at the end of the month.
Henrys is reputable, to a point.
Watch their ads closely, the asking price is for "open box" items, and is not a Buy it Now price, but a beginning auction price. Also, you do NOT get the Sigma USA warranty when you buy from Canada, you get the Canadian Warranty package and any claims will have to be sent back to Henrys to have the lens sent BACK to the US for warranty work, lots of shipping delays.
The lens sells new all over the USA for $1069, and you get the 4 year USA warranty with it. And if you buy from a reputable dealer here you get a 30 day money back guarantee from them so you can give it a good tryout for free in case it turns out to be too heavy for you, and it DOES get heavy when you are packing it around all day.
I have it and I love using it, but I am a BIG guy! LOL

Hey Rexene, what MT is saying MAY be true, dunno about US / Can warranties. But I can tell you that Henry's is certainly a reputable chain of stores in Ontario Canada, and one in Winnipeg and Halifax. I use them exclusively, and they will match any price offered by a competitor. I just mailed a lens to Ohio and shipping was guaranteed in 4 days by Canada Post. Trust Henry's! check them out at Henrys.com for more info. Dave

What kind of horror stories would you like to hear about grey market photo equipment? BHP is an extremely well known dealer that operates with a high degree of intergity. They do sell some grey market products at discounted prices, and they make it very clear that those items are imported and not covered by US warranties. Yet, every year, they are plagued by idiots who buy the grey market items and then demand warranty service. What part of, "Not covered by US warranty; must be returned to original manufacturer for warranty service" do people not understand?!
FYI..Henrys does not sell grey market items

I have dealt with Henry's as recently as this past weekend. I feel that their prices are a little high compared to internet prices e.g. Amazon, but their expertise makes it well worthwhile. At this point in time, I will deal with no one else with the exception of common things like memory cards.
Outstanding store. Best in Canada for people like us.

Rexene, it appears to me that you already have a pretty good line-up of lenses for your trip to Hawaii unless you're planning on taking some wildlife shots from far, far away? ;)

I am going to rent 150-500 for my trip to Africa. I can also rent a circular polarizer filter, but don't know what size to ask for. And is it worth it to rent that filter? Can you help me?

Depending where in Michigan you live, there is a Henry's store in Windsor. If you are close drive over and take a look.

I'm sure that Henrys is the best dealer in Canada, but if you buy a camera that was imported to Canada and have it shipped to the US, it is not eligible for US service and is, by definition, grey market. Grey market is not a derogatory term; it merely defines import and warranty status.
Well then, I guess the same applies for Canadians buying from Abes, B&H, adorama etc.

This depends on where you are. Nikon products sold by Henry's are not gray market in Canada. They are gray market in the US.
