Starena a Natural Model.

Starena is what I call a natural model. Natural models are quite rare. They hover in one of three states, the every day world, actively interacting with the real world and a hyper state of being. Starena exists most of the time in that first of the three states.

When modeling or making music, signing, dancing Starena will slip into that second state. There she is the persona of Lalin, which is the Vodon Goddess Madame Lalinn (Creole Moon Goddess). You have seen this represented in the Pirates of the Caribbean, the 'witch' who in the film is called Calypso is in reality representing one of the two Vodon Goddesses Madam Lalinn and the Goddess Ezili.

It would be off topic to try and explain but when Madame Lalinn transforms from her classical state, she becomes the Goddess Ezili. I tell this because in modeling some rare models can be moved to transform from Lalinn into Ezili.

This is true Vodou, it is what traditional views of social structure is called the occult and magic. I'm going to post a series of images that witnesses this transformation. It is a form of possession, when the dancer (model) is taken over by the Goddess and becomes one with the individual.

Yes, I know, I hear it all the time from viewers. I am asked why I photograph nude women, why are the images that I do so sensual, how the images turn from sensual into erotic, some bordering on an extreme. It is because I know how not to interfere with a woman when she is in a state of possession, when she slips into the 'zone' as it is said in common modern jargon. It is my pleasure and delight to 'see' this state, to watch it unfold, to sense when it slips the model between worlds.

I'm just the shutter monkey. A shutter monkey that has the vision to see as the transformation occurs, to see a state of possession.

Thanks Jwshelton, some will not like it. I think that by putting these observations for and about my work, and the reasons for what I do meaningful and telling. This may help others to see and feel a different insight of what making images of women can be. I regard women, at least certain women I should say, a deep and powerful insight of what others can be shown as an alternative vision of this thing called life.

Starena has been a great friend for many years and she has opened my mind and heart to the magical world of belief.

Remember photography is a visual medium and photos speak on there own terms. Prose and literature are different arts.

Another lovely model! As with the other sets, she appears comfortable in front of your camera.

One of my favorite things about photography is the story. Whether it's the story the picture tells, the back story telling what the photographer's goal was or his or the model's mindset. Keep giving us those insights.

Reading this I am reminded of the observation that Walter Benjamin made around 1910, "The illiterates of the future will not be the ones who know the alphabet, rather they will be those who can not make a photograph."

For myself I am not writing a novel or literature, I am story telling, the photograph is the novel and literature.

Art? Starena would act like a dog and vocalize "Arf, arf!"

(What the hell is that fuzzy white thing at the base of her left shoe?)

Sorry, but that last image is β€œa mess” and nothing more. It does not do anything for the model, and certainly nothing for me. The story told by the photo is not appealing. Maybe you have words that explain the situation.

There are no actual lines that divide the Art when it comes to the medium. Multi-media is a construct for the purposeful pretense of divisions. Yes, they are different regimes, but there is only one Art. (Communication!)

It is that the 'division' is only in the mind of the viewer.

I suspect in this shot she may have been balancing on the ladder on one leg with a plate of vegetables on her head before the whole thing went arse up

Timmers, I think you can do better next time?
Starena is looking too tens and I think everybody would look the same way being put in such a trashy mess?
Focus on propperly lit shapes of the human body and forget the garters, stockings etc.
At least for the beginning.
You will feel better as a photographer.
Good Luck!
