The D60 was one of Nikons entry level bodies and does not have an AF motor in the body, so you need to make sure any lenses you buy for it have the AF-S motor drive in the lens, otherwise you will not have autofocus. Flash options vary widely with factory and aftermarket choices. For new I would recommend the Nikon SB-700, but its pricey and there are several aftermarket choices for half the price.
The on-camera flash is actually pretty good but limited in range, I would get a hot-shoe mounted flash diffuser for it first before spending a LOT of money on another flash, see how that works for you and go from there.

It does have AF. But there are 2 types of AF. Those with an AF drive motor in the body and those without. Yours is an AF body, but has no drive motor for the older style AF lenses. Yours requires lenses that have the AF drive motor in the lens itself. Those lenses are designated AF-S by Nikon. Sigma calls theirs HSM lenses. Your body will AF with either of those type of lenses.

Thanks again, you are a great help. By the way, I would love to visit Montana. I have seen, yours included, some beautiful pictures of Montana.

You can go to Nikons web site, do a search for the D60 and a lot of basic info is there for you, You can probably order a manual or other informative literature.

I have a D-60 and love it. Its true I guess that its a entry level camera. I bought it at Cosco camera, with a 55-200, and a 18-55 lens, package deal. I bought the lowest price flash but it wasnt enough light for the pictures I was taking (fires). Ipicked up the SB 600 which works great! hope you have good luck like I did with mine.

Thanks Goldengatebill, that is encouraging. I am still learning how to use it but so far, I really like it.
