Received am email from the Google team telling me that effective April 2nd 2019 all personnel gmail accounts with Google with be shut off and the emails you have along with everything that was saved in your Google files w ill be destroyed and you will not be allowed into your files to retrieve any files that you have left in there.
I used gmail as a backup instead of going into your internet carrier. If you forgot to pay internet or use a cell phone gmail was a breeze to operate. Now does anyone know of a fast mail system that you do not have to pay for to use without going to AOL?
Killing Google+, not gmail
No gmail is part of google also. They are doing away with all consumer items and going to business only.
Paul send me a private email along with your email adress and l will send you the email l received from Google if you are interested.
Some how does not make sense since as far as I know all Android SmartPhones have a gmail account even if you do not actually use it for mail.
You've received this email because you have a consumer (personal) Google+ account or you manage a Google+ page.
In December 2018, we announced our decision to shut down Google+ for consumers in April 2019 due to low usage and challenges involved in maintaining a successful product that meets consumers' expectations. We want to thank you for being part of Google+ and provide next steps, including how to download your photos and other content.
On April 2nd, your Google+ account and any Google+ pages you created will be shut down and we will begin deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts. Photos and videos from Google+ in your Album Archive and your Google+ pages will also be deleted. You can download and save your content, just make sure to do so before April. Note that photos and videos backed up in Google Photos will not be deleted.
The process of deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts, Google+ Pages, and Album Archive will take a few months, and content may remain through this time. For example, users may still see parts of their Google+ account via activity log and some consumer Google+ content may remain visible to G Suite users until consumer Google+ is deleted.
As early as February 4th, you will no longer be able to create new Google+ profiles, pages, communities or events.
See the full FAQ for more details and updates leading up to the shutdown.
If you're a Google+ Community owner or moderator, you may download and save your data for your Google+ Community. Starting early March 2019, additional data will be available for download, including author, body, and photos for every community post in a public community. Learn more
If you sign in to sites and apps using the Google+ Sign-in button, these buttons will stop working in the coming weeks but in some cases may be replaced by a Google Sign-in button. You'll still be able to sign in with your Google Account wherever you see Google Sign-in buttons. Learn more
If you've used Google+ for comments on your own or other sites, this feature will be removed from Blogger by February 4th and other sites by March 7th. All your Google+ comments on all sites will be deleted starting April 2, 2019. Learn more
If you're a G Suite customer, Google+ for your G Suite account should remain active. Contact your G Suite administrator for more details. You can also expect a new look and new features soon. Learn more
If you're a developer using Google+ APIs or Google+ Sign-in, click here to see how this will impact you.
From all of us on the Google+ team, thank you for making Google+ such a special place. We are grateful for the talented group of artists, community builders, and thought leaders who made Google+ their home. It would not have been the same without your passion and dedication.

You've received this email because you have a cons... (

Gmail accounts are not included anywhere on that notice. I do not have a Google+ account but I do have a gmail account. I did not receive that notice. You might have inadvertently signed up for a Google+ when doing something else. Forgetting to uncheck a box when ordering an online product would be one example. They hide those things sometimes.
As others have already pointed out (but you are not understanding), google+ is NOT Gmail. The relationship is essentially that alphabet (Google's parent company) owns them both. Google+ (the one they are killing) wa their attempt to compete with Facebook - to create a social media type of world where friends could connect and boast about how good the muffin they ate at Starbucks was, or whatever.
Google+ never gained traction - not many folks signed on (and that was likely mostly due to having Gmail accounts so other friends might have looped them into it). So Google is killing Google+. Gmail is unaffected.

My understanding is that it's effecting Google +, the Google equivalent to Facebook, not the entire Google world.

Simple, Google+ is going away.
Whatever you may have stored, sent, posted, etc. on it will also.
I don't use Google+ so I've nothing to worry about.

Just like others have said, google+ is not gmail.
Don't read into this what is not there.

Lotta that seems to be going around.
Google+ or G+ (icon has a red square with a G in it) was a social media site that Google set up in an attempt to compete with services like Facebook. This is being shut down. If you have photos or other items saved to that, you might possibly lose them. However, I don't believe gmail or other google services will be affected. (This is from my personal AT&T Customer Care representative...my wife...)
Thank you for all the info.
Yes. Killing gmail would be a catastrophe for all Android phone users, since we have to have a gmail address for one's Android phone service to tie into. So, killing gmail would virtually disable all Android phone users. (I also got the email about Google+.)
