Which model Fuji? Often you can download manuals given a bit of google-fu.

Welcome to UHH. You're off to a good start by reading the manual and understanding the features of your camera. It will save you a lot of time in the long run. Digital Photography School and Adorama are one of many sites that have free video clips and/or articles. There is lots of free information on the internet. Flickr.com is a site where people share their photos. Several years ago, I used Picasa and Kodak EasyShare for free basic photo editing.

Latoya,

Most cameras have a manual on the internet, search for it.

Also UTube has hundreds of videos on camera use in various configurations. I'm sure you'll get it.

after you get through your manual (and if you are like me, it only scratches the surface of understanding) - try the library for books on the three main subjects - composition, exposure and lighting - of photography.
I've used Bryan Peterson's series and Photo Workshop series. Both are written simply... and get you started with simple tasks.
Good luck... I'm still reading all I can get. Sites like UH and digital magazines offer lots of answers:)

You won't be sorry if you used Picasa. Free from Google.

If you have an iPhone check to see if there is an app with your manual. I wanted to look something up yesterday and didn't have the book. Took a chance typed in my camera and there was an app for Nikon cameras with the manuals and it was free. Now I don't have to carry my book with me. :-)

First, welcome here. So much friendly advice and support. No question to stupid... please ask away. We all want you to take the best pics you can. As far as your manual goes, sure, read it, but it will seem like Greek to you unless you understand the fundamentals of photography that have been around for nearly 200 years. AdoramaTV is a great start, free and informative. Bryan Petersen is great, all their guys, Mark Wallace etc have a lot to offer. As far as software, I'm a Lightroom guy... if you can scrape together the 150 for the full program, don't hesitate. Otherwise, Picassa is fine. Don't be daunted. Take it slow. We're here to help. Play with your camera and shoot shoot shoot, and above all have FUN!

For a good free photo editing program many use either Picasa or GIMP. Gimp is more compareable to photoshop but is free. You can access it from the following webiste:

http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

I would save the download to your computer first, then run the setup file.

Picasa will be a easier program to learn starting out than GIMP but without as many features. It can be accessed from the following site, again I suggest saving first then running the setup file:

http://picasa.google.com/

In yesterdays forum there was a question asked about what was a good starter book for photography. You can follow that conversation from the following link:

Hope these help

I highly recommend just sitting down with your camera and the operation manual and read the whole thing while looking at the camera body. Take the manual with you and go out to shoot anywhere and everywhere - shooting anything, everything, and everybody. If a word like aperture or shutter doesn't make sense, Google it and read articles about that specific subject.

Corel Paintshop Pro X4 is currently $39 and can do virtually everything you will ever want until you're so good you want to buy Adobe PhotoShop for big bucks. A one time low cost purchase, it's not a scaled down version of anything, and it is powerful. It can be used easily using automatic one-click photo fixes, or can be used in great depth and complexity when you feel comfortable.

Try the Fuji site for a downloadable manual.

There are no cheap Photo Shop programs. But I would recommend, as a start, Photo Scape - a free download. It is pretty basic but it'll get you started.

Good luck

The simplest thing to do is to begin with everything set to Auto. Practice taking different kinds of shots, zoomed in and zoomed out. Then, depending on what your camera offers, choose a non-auto mode, like aperature or shutter priority. See what difference that makes.

If you try to do everything at once, you'll just get confused. Don't make it a job - enjoy it! :D
