I use lightroom classic, and never noticed the face detection before. When I open a photo in Lr a box appears around the face, asking for a name. I enter the name, and Lr recognizes the face in subsequent pictures. Great. But, how do I get rid of the box around the face, which is quite annoying?

Expanding the result above to read all the text and / or reading other results returned in 0.61-seconds probably will resolve the issue faster than patiently waiting at UHH ... We see your post contributed nothing toward a solution now about 40-minutes later where I at least gave a method in the form of a fishing pole ...

In the Library module, ensure the Face detection icon on the toolbar is off - not highlighted

Go to the top left of the screen and click on the title - mine reads "Lightroom Classic CC - yours may have your name or company name if you have personalised the interface.

The third item on the dropdown is "Face Detection" - it will either say "paused" which means off, or it will indicate a count of faces being recognised. Click on Face Detection until it reads "Paused"

If you click on the Face Detection icon on the toolbar or inadvertently click "o", then you will turn on Face Detection again.

Bingo! if he tooolbar in not showing hit T then the face appears in the grid section. Click on click off. Now the answer that was groaned about, should have been intuitive, any shortcut hit twice will turn on and off.
