Just finishing up a couple of weeks on Sanibel Island and heading north to the Inverness area. We have been to Homossa Springs in the past but are not aware of any other good areas. It is close to The Villages and the Russell Stover candy factory.

Will appreciate any good suggestions

If you are staying at the Villages, Cedar Key may be a bit of a trip for you, but one of my favorite places to visit. Very colorful, quaint town on the Gulf Coast. Lots of nice restaurants and unique shops. cedarkey.org

Have a nice stay in Florida and get some great photos.

Might also consider Yankeetown which is also off rt 19/98 on the coast. Location for the Elvis movie "Follow That Dream." The only part of the movie location still recognizable is the bridge where they were fishing from. All the rest was returned to nature.

Thanks Photyog8! Since we are staying in Floral City (A few miles south of Inverness) it is a bit closer. Your pictures show it to be a very interesting place. Either a day trip or a stop on the way back north.

Thanks again

Very nice lake with many great birds behind downtown Inverness.

Not sure what goes on with Weeki Wachee nowadays but might be worth checking out.

Crystal river can be good for Manatee. Rent a boat and go to the spring.

I’ve lately been studying actual American History ( The Great Courses: Ancient Civilizations of North America). Found this one nearby: https://www.floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/crystal-river-archaeological-state-park

My mother in law lived in Inverness for many years so I visited often. She passed away several years ago so don’t know if I’ll get back. But if so I’d check this out. Would make a nice day with Manatee watching around the spring in Crystal River. I once scuba dove the spring. Many huge tarpon and friendly manatee.

Thanks IDguy! Have been to Crystal River (great restaurant there -- Charlies Fish House. Great food and a deck to watch the action as fish are cleaned. Lots of Pelis, Cormorants, and a Tarpon or two). We will have to look into your suggestions as we were not aware of the state park there.

Thanks again!
