I have a canon T7i camera. When I take a picture, the AF squares appear in red on the preview screen although it is not enbeded on the photo. How can I correct it? I feel like I probably messed up a setting b\c it was not like that when I bought it. I hope this makes sense ..it is hard to explain.

Not sure how to correct it, but check your manual, I think it just shows where your focus was. Not really a problem. I think if nothing else you can go to reset settings and that should take you back to where the camera was set when you bought it. Sorry, I remember this happening with one of my rebels a while back, but do remember how I stopped it.

It should be in your manual, it is an aid helping you to focus, as of knowing which focus point is engaged. There is a menu on how to turn it off, or on!

Go to your Setup menu2, I think, and then look for Viewfinder Display. You should be able to make adjustments/turn off.there.

I have the option of making those squares turn red in dim light. I like that. I bet there's a menu choice to turn that off.

The red squares in the view finder are your focus points. You can set them as a singular one or more. Just remember if you have more then one AF point, the AF will focus on the closest subject. Check your manual how to set

Just to clarify, I assume you don't want the focus point to appear on a photo that you output...like a print or even when attached to an email or posted to a web site. Do you want the focus point square to appear when you review the photos in the camera? I think you can also set up some storage and post processing applications to display the focus point when you want but also turn that off. Am I correct?

Those in the viewfinder are showing you which ones are in use to focus or when viewed on the screen after the shot which were used to set focus.
