I have On 1 RAW 2019.2 and Photoshop CC. I don't find either software to be intuitive, but the functionality of ON1's Layers leaves much to be desired compared to PS CC.

Really? how so?

Ferris, have both ON 1 Raw 2018 and bought into ON1 RAW 2019 when the upgrade was first announced. The first go at installing 2019 went awry, but it's been great ever since; am using it as much as Luminar 3, LR 6 (local install), Lightzone, etc. As with Luminar 3, you can install ON1 2019 to a completely offline workstation and you're allowed up to five installed copies with your license, before it has to be completely reset. Not everyone want to work completely offline but it's nice to know it's available. sv

I've tried and sent back ON1 3 times now, have not tried the latest version. I particularly appreciated the "un intrusive" catalog system—the app simply finds all the files in your computer (and hard drives and cloud), you don't have to "add" any of them. And lets you do all kinds of tagging and organizing. Basic editing functions are great and easy to use. Local adjustments, masking, etc. are relatively easy. Some useful & interesting filters. But unless they've fixed them, the "perfect eraser" and clone stamp are frustrating and ineffective (that has been the deal breaker for me) and the colors it produced, no matter how I tried to adjust them, were often just off. I'll probably try it again. Making do with Luminar (who promise to improve their new & clunky catalog).

Steve, I haven't notice similar issues with our original installation of Raw 2019. Since each workstation is different, every so often a bug that doesn't bother some, can prove particularly irritating and downright unrewarding for others. We like new and improved features as much as the next person, so the gripe I have is that I don't need a new reinstall each month, which feels more like 'patch Tuesdays' that also aren't beloved. We're still working well with the new program but incremental updates which are actually new installations, requiring a new re-activation, gets tedious. Being an extended beta tester also isn't my thing, so we may sit the new upgrade for a while to make sure there are not additional problems. sv

Thanks, Gene. Exactly what I need to know.

The new AI Mask is excellent in concept, but I crashed my computer, crashed the app requiring a computer reboot, etc. It gets slow when you have lots of small edits with the masking brush. I take it back, it's not quite ready for prime time. The alternative, more mature applications are still the better option. But this is the best non-Adobe editor out there, but only when they get the kinks worked out.

I am reluctant to stop using Lightroom because of the library system that I have set up and therefore use ON1 as a plug-in. Who has experience with migrating photos to ON1’s catalog, and how did it go?

I will not stop using LR for the same system. And because On1, while being an excellent plugin - still lacks the functionality of Photoshop. Between LR and PS you have a complete solution. Adding On1 to the mix makes it faster to get to results on single images, but there is nothing I can do in On1 that I can't do in LR/PS. I am not talking about the process, just the result. Using plugins and adjustable filters does speed things up considerably, making things easier and faster.

I find On1 software to be simple and uncomplicated. Sharing photos to social media or uploading for printing is much easier than Lightroom. If I need to do something complicated I go to PS. I have Lightroom and a love hate relationship with it. I’m a Mac user.
