They keep saying we are going to get snow. Facebook is full of 'advisements' like 'put a warm coat on' and 'keep your distance from the car in front'. BUT all we get is rain...hey ho.

In 1985 while serving in the Ca. ARNG we spent our 2 weeks active duty doing winter training in Minnesota in January. On the middle weekend the day time temp was a balmy -50 with windchill. Then the sun went down and it got really cold.

We are expecting snow tonight and sub zero weather Thursday and into the weekend. Not fit for man or beast. I do feel bad for my dog when he has to do his duty. I watch over him to make sure he doesn't freeze to the ground...Welcome to NH Sorry for Minnesota, been there, it get cold there...

Thank God for those people who came here and moved in a variety of directions to build this country. Did not have this whining outlook. The country would no further than North than NH no further West than then the Berkshires. No further South than The Cape. It's winter move on. It happens every year. Adapt, overcome, persevere.

That 50 below is wind chill, not actual temp. Actual temp is minus 2 right now.

At 10:40 Wednesday morning our temperature in the St.Paul/Minneapolis area registered at 25 below zero add a 25 mile per hour wind gives us a wind chill of 50 below zero with full sunshine and partly cloudy skies. We are suppose to have this same weather thru Thursday with a warm up starting with highs in the 30's over the weekend.

International Falls, MI is often the coldest place in the country. The high will be -18° F tomorrow. Wow!

With the jet stream dipping down, we're getting hit with weather that should be at the North Pole.

Just a little correction - that's MN not MI. I'm in NW MN, and we had -40 last night. Someone near here reported -50!

Back 35 yrs. ago, I was a scoutmaster in the BSA and ran a large number of outings and training sessions in our Council and this brings to mind the year that I ran a week-end camp on wilderness winter camping in NW Indiana. The temp reached 25 below on our first night with better than 50 below windchill. Myself along with an assistant SM and six of my older scouts made it through the ordeal with no problem. We camped on the ground with no tents, sleeping bags only and no heat of any kind. The next morning we tried to fire up our propane stoves to fix some breakfast and found the propane had solidified. We resorted to wood fires for the rest of the ordeal. Had approx. 70 other boys came out for the main event Saturday and took part in all of the sessions for the day and had a great time. I just wonder how many parents today would allow their kids to participate in such a event. Hell, they ride warm busses to school nowadays and still cancel when it gets below zero. Changing times I reckon.

A few million miles closer or further away from the sun and life as we know it would be impossible. Coincidence?

Coldest I have been in is -35 actual, not wind chill. That was plenty cold. Since 1995 have wintered in Yuma, AZ. 71 right now, high supposed to be 75. Doubt I would be alive in -35 weather. Have fun folks.
