I need to get a flash unit. I cannot afford the Canon 580 or 430. I have been looking at the Vivitar series 1 DF483 power zoom AF flash, & the YONG NUO YN-565 EX.
Is there anyone out there that has used these units and can let me know what they think?
Many thanks
Bob
I haven't used that particular model, Bob. But over the years I've used literally dozens of Vivitar flashes and never had a bad one.
have the same trouble with sony cameras.have found ways to use my flash units from the 70s with my modren cameras.$50 and under beats $300 and up if you don't use a flash alot.
I agree my vivitar flashes have always been bulletproof.
I have older flashes but was afraid the voltage was different. I will look closer to the spec's Thank you for the input
Bob
If you have a few older flashes, I would highly recommend getting a Wein Safe-Sync Hot Shoe to Hot Shoe (SSHSHS) adapter. I think the list is about $50.00 and I have seen them on sale for around $30.00. I use a couple of them for my old Vivitar flashes that I use with my shoot through umbrellas.
i have a couple of 580ex2 and 4 yongnuo yn560. the yongnuos are awesome flashes and have never let me down (and under $70 each).
the yn560 are manual flash (i don't use ttl anyway...
i don't have any experience with the yn565 (it has ttl function)...but i would not be afraid to buy one if i needed another.
I ordered one of the 565s from Amazon yesterday. I watched the Utube video comparing it to Canon 430EX II, and Canon 580EX II. It campares more to the Canon 430EX II vs the 580, since it can only be used as a slave. I is E-ttl capable, so it has all the newer bells and whistles. I'm pretty new to flash photography, so it will cut my teeth. If I need more slaves, I can always get a master flash, or get a transmitter. I shoot with a Canon 50D, it has no radio transmitter, like the 60D.
you can use the yn565 as a master...just set a 2nd flash as a slave (off camera) and the yn565 on your camera. when you flash the yn565, it will set off the slave flash. no special settings.
