The eagle was rescued in Alaska after an unfortunate accident. While still an immature eagle, he flew into a high-power line and damaged his right wing. He was rehabbed in Alaska and transferred to the Detroit Zoo to live out his years, which in captivity can be 40+. I thought it may be of interest, as we were able to watch him mature as a five or six year old. The first photo shows his beak in transition from nearly black to yellow and his eyes from brown to yellow. He is molting away his immature feathers and acquiring his regal adult plumage.
The wonders of growing up. It's great to see these magnificent birds grow. Thankfully he will be able to live a long life. Mahalo for sharing his growth.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. Really horrible when an animal is injured in the wild. Now many people, living in the city, who would never have an opportunity to see a live bald eagle can observe him and his partner. He's great for education and many have an emotional attachment when they hear his story.

Terrific shots. I love the 1st one morphing between juvenile and adult status. Too bad about the injury. I'm glad it was rescued and will be an ambassador. Gary
