Time for an update for the past camera suggestions for other people.

My daughter is going on a Mt Everest, Base Camp climb. I've looked at many different type that are small, lightweight and durable that she could use. There sure are a lot of models out there!

Type I ran across are:
Sony Cyber-Shot.
Canon Powershot.
Fujifilm Fine-Pix.
Nikon Coolpix.
Panasonic Lumix.
Ricoh WG-50.

DSLR cameras are out. Changable lenes are out. Cellphones are out.

She is not a photographer and needs a simple type camera to carry around probably in a pocket most of the time. Also one that has both single shot and video abilities.

Any suggestions ?

The only "little" camera experience I have is that I have a Sony DSC-H1 and my wife has a DSC-C60 and we both like them. Old yes, but they still work great. My H1 is great on the color saturation and clarity.
I've heard that the Power Shots are good also.

Make sure she has plenty of batteries, or something to charge them with, as well as enough memory cards!

How about an Olympus Tough TG 5 camera? She is going into an often unkind, unpredictable climate. Weather proof, water proof and tough in harsh climates. Can get bounced around and still function. Probably small enough to put in a jacket pocket. Check it out at BH- now 449.00. Can probably get the earlier model from Ebay for a good deal.

PS- Has compass, GPS, video

It’s a great unit. Rented one a couple of years ago.

For my hiking needs for a small, lightweight, always handy in my pants pocket camera is a Canon Powershot G9. It used to be a Sony Cybershot, but the Sony model seems to have died of old age (10ish years) during a hike back in 2017. There are many slightly different models in both the Canon and Sony lines with subtle differences, mostly in the lens focal lengths. I changed to the Canon as it shoots in RAW and I shoot in RAW with my Canon DSLRs. What I really like in the jump-forward in pocket camera technology is the ability to move images from the camera to phone and post from the road as I was capturing both RAW and small JPEG.

The Olympus Tough also has Raw format to my surprise! I have thought about picking up the Olympus for harsh weather conditions and boating but since I avoid the former and don't do the latter don't need it lol.

Thanks everyone!

It looks like the Olympus Tough series as it by a very large margin.

So a tripod, 70-200mm lens, and big DSLR are out, huh?

I'd bring a "tough" camera.

Olympus Tough TG5. Small enough to fit in a pocket, good in the cold, weatherproof, water proof, drop proof to 7 feet, dust proof. It can get knocked around and it won't hurt the camera.
