Old Gas Station in Hempstead, Texas

This old gas station is located in Hempstead, a small Texas town that was by-passed years ago by a new highway. In my mind the black and white and slightly out-of-focus image helps to "blend" the newer nearby structure in with the old.

Can just about hear the echo, "Ding, Ding", of the air powered bell alert when a car drives over the trip line.

At one time, that was an active, bustling place. Not so much now. I see closed-down stations like that occasionally. Many were closed down by the oil companies in 1974.
