How about a group of articles and photos for those of us who never will own or use DSLRs with multitudes of lens and filters because: we don't care about that stuff and/or can't afford that stuff. I hope we P&Sers will not be booted from UHH by the DSLRers because we don't have and will never have a Hasselblad H5D Multi-Shot with a suitcase full of lens (I had to look this up and maybe there isn't a suitcase full lens for this beautiful monster). In any case you guys like pictures and so do we. Am I booted?

Well James, I have a DSLR with 40# of lenses etc... but it is dusty. The first layer of dust result of a Sony HX50 pocket camera, the next layer is a result of my Panasonic TZ100 pocket compact which has a 1" sensor and a compacted refrigerator size computer built in. Amazing the tricks this 20 mp camera will do. I really love the 4-K capture .. grabbing a single frame at 8+mp. If I need more I can use Photozoom to up the resolution.

For articles on not P&S... that is a degrading phrase... rather say Compact Cameras. Look up for example 1" sensor camera comparison and review. Sony, Panasonic, and now Canon are in the 1" market. Use our friend Mr. Google, he will help you.

Pocket cameras I call 24/7 cameras, capture photos much better than the most expensive camera in the closet.

I myself, before my Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera became part of my life, started with a Panasonic Lumix P&S Camera, which I wish I still had today, it was a very nice P&S Camera, produced very nice images. I think P&S Cameras are Excellent, especially the Pocket sized as I owned. Although I must admit with today's Supurb Smartphones, which produce Excellent images, they are making life difficult for P&S Cameras similar to the one I used to own.

I know of no restrictions on UHH regarding camera type. True, many here use DSLRs, but there are also many others that don't. This isn't an exclusive club... rather, it is an inclusive group of photographers. We all share a mutual interest in photography as an art, regardless of equipment. I've seen many photos here taken with iPhones. No problem, the image was captured and shared here. 👍🤓👍

To me and likely everyone else the most important camera is the one you have with you when you want to capture an image. So for me it's my cell phone camera. I have the Sony RX... and a couple DSLRs. The Sony is more or less permanently attached to my birdwatching 'scope and one of my DSLRs is m or l attached to a really heavy prime super telephoto lens sitting by the door to the balcony where I can grab and mount it on a permanent mount on the balcony railing. My other DSLR has a 17-55mm f/2/8 IS lens sitting at the ready to be used for requests to photograph various gatherings and such in this 395 person apartment complex. It's amazing what all goes on with that many people enjoying life together and wanting to have photos of what's important to them. So bet since you want to know about cameras and don't want to deal with a bunch of gadgets you should use what you like. Also bet with your desire to be a photographer you will be able post photos on this website that are most likely equal or better than any here now. KISS is a tried and true approach to anything!

Wow! Talk about defensive. When I look at posted photos, sometimes I am amazed at the high quality shots taken with compact cameras or smartphones. The only reason I keep a compact camera in my car is because I find using my iPhone to be awkward. I’m tired of photos of my thumb. Many of us more mature (old) hoggers grew up with SLR’s and are comfortable with them. My granddaughter uses her phone and takes exquisite photos. She has a natural feel for subjects and composition. So, it ain’t all about the equipment. It is the photographer that makes the difference.

I own 4 Nikon DSLR's with a ton of lenses.
I also have a few point and shoots. I like to take them on vacation with me instead of my Nikon gear. My favorite is my Sony HV90V which will be replaced by the Sony HV99V which will include RAW capture. Both have a pop up viewfinder and a Zeiss 24-750 mm lens. I put the camera in a coolpix belt pouch, with magnetic closure, I got on sale from B&H for $5.00. I will include images of this. I just attach the pouch to my belt and I am hands free and ready to travel. The last shot was taken of a lighthouse in Maine using the pop up rear screen so I could put the camera on the ground. TRAVEL RIGHT, TRAVEL LITE.

I appreciate the very positive responses to my Compact Camera request (no more P&S). I'm interested in learning to use the non-auto settings for my Canon 40x SX720HS. I down-loaded the user guide but I'm a slow learner when trying to digest the guide information. I'm having problem with:
Low light photography
Fast action shooting
Using the zoom features (grain issues?)
Recently I tried shooting at my Granddaughter's night soccer game and what I came home with was a mess.
I will, of course, go back to the guide and re-read what I read (ouch!).
So far, photography is at the same time fascinating and frustrating. I am grousing but very interested. Did I mention that I will be eighty-two this summer? Talk about a late start. This interest in photography started after reading an article about old-folks keeping their brain cells active by taking on mentally challenging activities. Among my responsive activities has been moving the little mode switch (proper term?) on my Canon from AUTO to...whatever. PS: UHH is great!

Welcome. Hmmmm. THE ISSUE today is more about MILC vs DSLR. There is no booting based on what you shoot with. But sure "Medium Format" cameras like you refer too have more IQ but at a huge price. I still have two 4x5" film cameras, no one complains. All my digital images are APS-C DSLR or smaller down to a SmartPhone. See my Tag Line. But due to many years of photography I have many lenses, mostly bought used. Latest camera for my wife is a Fujifilm X100T, not a DSLR. It has one lens, a 23mm.

Welcome to the forum. Many describe a point and shoot camera, as one that doesn't have a viewfinder. You use the LCD screen to frame your photo. But, first you make your settings in the menu, before making the shot. My Nikon 38X Bridge camera has no viewfinder, and my 20 megapixels Sony pocket camera. Both of these cameras do not shoot RAW. Only my Nikon DSLR shoots RAW. When, I first became a member of this forum, the most mentioned Bridge camera was the Canon. SX50. Many say a point and shoot is not a point and shoot camera , if it has a viewfinder. Some say any camera, that has a fixed zoom lens is a point and shoot. Regardless of it having a viewfinder. Take your pick.
