Sometimes, you have no other choice. Public schools in poor areas tend give poor educations, often in an unsafe setting, leaving parochial schools as the only option. With children of mixed religious backgrounds, parochial schools can be the ultimate nightmare. One of my old neighbors were such a couple; the husband was Italian Catholic and his wife was Jewish. Their son was raised in the Jewish faith, in accordance with Jewish law. They first sent him to Catholic School, as he was nerdy, and the local public school was filled with bullies and gang bangers. There he was called Kike and Dirty Jew. They pulled him out and enrolled him in a Jewish Yeshiva, and on hearing his Italian surname, he was assaulted with slurs like Dago and Guinea. Luckily, his parents forked up the money to send him to a non-sectarian private school were all faiths and colors were welcome and bullying was not. He fit in there perfectly, and went on to a prestigious college
