I have tried with stucco, grasses, some ice formations, bricks, etc., which have sort of worked in conjunction with a 2nd or even 3rd texture layer. I don't have an art background though, and have a difficult time giving depth to an image as well as to a texture. Sometimes mine come out what I'd call very "thin" and don't have much effect on an image at all. I'll keep trying though as I learn more about PP, shading, and contrast. Maybe one day some might work well. Bev

Blend modes like multiply, darken, and some others can help increase the strength of a "thin" texture. Sometimes I duplicate, even twice, a fragile texture to get more depth, using blend modes and blending options. I'm trying to learn how to properly use those confounding "blend if" sliders in the options panel. And to create paint textures with brushes. There's SO much available, even if you only go for the free stuff, it'll keep all of us occupied a long time!

Beautiful job on the flowers. I like the really soft look. I found several different types of free "backgrounds". That is how I googled it. I got both color and texture as types available. The textures are mostly photos of brick walls or wall of vines. I think those would probably be used when creating a fantasy world with really intricate layers of composites. Anyway that's what I would use them for. I really like the color ones I found though. They add light and texture as well as color. I prefer to use them as a true background then layer the image on top. I think using the color layer on top is harder to adjust and makes my image too soft. That being said I can see where you might want to mask in that effect sometime. There are just so many ways to manipulate all these tools and variables. It makes my head spin.

A nice try but just a little to much.

I photographed a couple flowers for a "soft focus" theme for our camera club. I chose the pink one, so cropped way in to close up, ran Topaz Impression to soften, then also added 2 overlays which lightened and softened more. Comments/critiques welcome. Bev

Very minimalist abstract.

Yes, every once-in-a-while a line or curve in an image catches my eye and I want to reduce everything around it to just that graphic, just to see what it's like alone. I have a few of just a curve of a flower petal, or a trunk of a tree. Thanks for your comment. Bev
