I use the simpler version of LR's catalogue in Photoshop Elements. Very easy to switch back and forth between the catalogue and the PP part.

Which version on Elements are you using?

Lightroom is very good... But it is now only sold via subscription. You have to pay for both it and Photoshop... no option to get only Lightroom. $120 a year.

Unless you want to get into Photoshop, too, I'd look elsewhere. Can't help you with advice, though... I use Lightroom (older licensed version, not subscription).

PSE 15, but have used the catalogue for everything since about version 1. The catalogue works almost the same as Lightroom. It is called the Organizer in PSE. To post process you just choose EDIT- Edit with PSE Editor/ or Ctrl I without going to the edit options and it loads the image into the editor. You can set the working screen up to show your folders in File Explorer on the left and the Tags and Information on the right. There are also Smart Tags you can use: People, Places and Events. People and Events are useful but Places is not specific enough. However, you can create non-smart tags for places that are useful.

That works and is usable by people who have not yet learned how to use the Lightroom features.
The only disadvantage to that approach is that if an image has more than one important characteristic, it has to be duplicated in order to put it into all the folders it needs to be in. Since memory prices generally decrease with time this may not be an important problem.

You can use "shortcuts" in windoze to circumvent the duplication; just right click and use "send to" in the dropdown.....
