Seems like a data point to be added to others if serious consideration is ever given to trying to cut down on gun deaths. I only post it as one data point. I don't think it should be ignored, but I'm not trying to say it demands some particular action. I would really like to see some serious non biased research, but that is very unlikely.

It’s suspect that she had a gun in the car in the first place

I'm not aware of details. I had hoped for some comments, but maybe there is nothing to do but keep track of it for future reference. It's impossible to say that a particular law would have prevented it, but we must be able to make incidents like this less common. I'm not saying it is common. I'm unaware of the statistics.

If I had come out screaming for or against gun control I would have gotten all kinds of feed back, but I guess the incident itself just isn't that interesting.

Ca has no right to carry laws at least to my knowledge. I’m guessing mother was in the wrong for having a loaded gun in the car and add insult to injury where here child could access it.
So now the child I’m guessing might be off to DCFS.

I think there are multiple kids and they probably all are. Part of me says that is what is right, but I'm over my head on stuff like that so I'll withhold an opinion. They said she will probably be charged.

You're being an ass. I don't even know whether background checking the mother would have made a difference. You shouldn't make laws based on one incident or emotions, though most laws probably are made on emotions. It's a tragic incident, though not as tragic as it could be. We shouldn't make light of it any more than we should get hysterical over it.
