Thank you for your response. I ordered the Tamrac 8" Sabi Sack Bean Bag. I didn't want the metal plate. I have more freedom by not using a ball or gimbal head. I want to be able to get out of the car ASAP, if needed. The smaller Sabi Sack version seems to be what will be suitable for my needs.
That's why I only use the Vertex bean bag, hand made when you order and if I remember correctly it's made in Texas. No metal plate and will last a life time.
I have the unformulated idea of using 'Floam', that toy deformable material that can be molded into a shape. It sits firmly in that shape and can be allowed to dry in the air. But my notion would be to have the floam in a well sealed plastic bag so it does not dry out. I suspect it would work like a bean bag, but it can be molded to lift 'up' the lens if you want, and take its weight.
No idea if it would work.
Thanks guys and much appreciated Seems like something I need to catch up on

Jim, I'm pleased that you liked the subject.

I made my own from a "bean bag" filled with Styrofoam "peanuts". The peanuts eventually break down but are easily replaced. Biggest advantages: weighs next to nothing and cost is minimal.
I have one stuffed with non-perishable foods. I use it for photography and an emergency meal resource during government shutdowns.

The color of the car does not matter at all. As was stated the animals have become accustomed to the cars. The camo is important so that animals will not detect you or your movement while sitting in the car. If a turkey sees any movement inside a car they will be gone very fast.
Well, then...I learned something! Thanks for clarifying!
! My only contact is with a properly used tripod collar. I use the pod part of my bodypod for use in a car and use a tilt head with panning at the top - in effect a "carpod".
Interesting comments because the Nikon factory tripod collar that came with my 200-500 zoom shows minor vibration at 500 mm in a closed room shooting through an open window at distance. I am on the verge of trying a bean bag or rifle rest solution.

Best window mount for shooting out of the vehicle: Go to the hardware or plumbing store, buy a length of foam, winter pipe insulation - the kind with the slit down the entire length ... this sells for only a couple of bucks and works better and way cheaper than a photo bean bag.
I use this handy little noodle for most wildlife and scenic shots taken from the driver's seat of my vehicle. Simply roll the window down to a comfortable shooting height, cut the thing to the length needed with a pocket knife, slip it down over the window top and shoot! Keep it in place and the window can be rolled up so as to stay nice and warm, or cool with the heater or AC on - even at highway speeds.

Wow, Thanks for this great idea, driving to Florida from our Freezing Cold State, it would be nice to have this easy, quick, Cheap way of shooting with my Nikon D3300 with my 18-140 lens out the Window of my Car, when I see something that catches my Eye.
Great topic! Thanks for all the posts and suggestions. I'm also in the market for some sort of lens support for my vehicle (Tamron 150-600 lens on D7100). I found this topic and have been peeping in on it from time to time.
Think I'll try the pool noodle first, since, like me, it's cheap. I may to to the plate type mount since I already have a dedicated mount for that lens. Great tip on the window motor - thanks.
I have a pece of foam insulation tube in all my vehicles that slide right on the windows. Works like a charm.
I tried the insulation tube thing but it still lets my 400 lens wobble up and down. Bought a bag from b&h and filled it with rice. Sand was too heavy for me. Rice works very well for me. Nice stable platform. One word of caution. The vibration from a running engine will keep you from getting those tack sharp images. I have a hybrid so it is fine as long as the gas engine isn’t running

Sooner or later, it will ruin your widow's performance .....
If you were referring to me, I think not since in my car it fits me to have the window all the way down with the bag sitting on the car door
