Sandhill crane migration.
Hello,
Yes, I have been there before and definitely recommend it as a jaw dropping spectacle. The best place to stay is in Kearney which is closest to the actual site along with a naturalist venue. There is a comfortable Hampton Inn in town and plenty of places to eat. Kearney also has air service from Denver and elsewhere on United Express and car rental at the airport is available.
The ideal time is sometimes weather dependent as a late winter strom may delay the migration or make photos a challenge. That said, early to mid March is the best time. Your camera and lens should work well. Dont' forget a tripod.
Have fun. Regards, RAB

Does anyone have experience photographing the great sandhill crane migration in Nebraska? I would like to go but need recommendations on where exactly to go and when to go. I also would like to know how close you can get. I have a 7D Mark 2 with 100-400 lens plus a 1.4 ext. hopefully that will get me the reach I need. Also, I suppose, is best time of day to go. Any help and suggestions will be helpful. Thanks
Just be sure to take your long-johns and your thickest gloves!
