Love the three dimensionalness of the scene, so stark, crisp, and colorful! Do you think the white layer was once the sandy bottom of a lake or ocean?

Beautiful job. Great light and composition. I think I would have leveled it based on the white bands in the background but that is just my preference. Thanks for sharing.

From what I've read about the area, it was indeed an ocean bed. Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment everyone.

Interesting thought. I shot what I saw as level, that being the base of the main cathedrals.

Thanks, Sylvia. I like the light on the far ridges and buttes especially, considering the fairly thick interesting clouds with which I blessed. Really seems to add to the depth of the image.

Outstanding. Is the horizon line off a little? Or is it just me?

Another Hog mentioned that. I used the base of the cathedrals as my straight point. Later when we descended into valley, it was indeed flat. So, I guess my response is I did the best I could.

I think my eyes are drawn by the white layer in the background cliff because it is lighter and because it is a part of the horizon. There is nothing wrong with the leveling of your great shot. We all have to make a that decision for ourselves and what we prefer in our images.

I rotated it so the white layer line is about level.
It does look better.

I'll give it a whirl. I'm stubborn, but not stupid (at least most of the time)

Thanks you "straighten 'er up Hogs" for taking the time to help me see the light er, the line
