I got a whale of a deal to rent a Tamron 150-600 generation 1 lens for a week. While I knew it was G1, I had no experience with this length of lens, so I figured practice was practice. Sure enough, a learning curve presented itself, but it was fun to just putter along and see some results. I see exactly what people have said were the weakness in this product, but overall was still very satisfied with the overall results.

I am looking forward to renting the G2 as well as the Nikon 200-500 to get some comparisons. These were all taken with my Nikon D7500. The Osprey were taken using a monopod, the others hand held. As always, downloading will show the best results.

I tried the 150-600 G2 and the Nikon 200-500. Both were very close in qualty and build. I purchased the Tamron G2 for the following reasons. It gave me wider and longer possibilities. The tripod collar was Arca-Swiss. $100. Less.
I took it to S. Africa and was glad I did. I got some of the sharpest bird shots ever.

I own the G1 Tamron & love it for wildlife shooting. It's easy to hand hold for short periods of time because of the weight.

Great bird captures. I have the G2 lens and am thoroughly satisfied with it. The first time I used it I just couldn't believe how fast it focused. Its almost instantaneous. The lens is extremely sharp. Mahalo for sharing.

You did very well with it! I rented one almost 4 years ago and purchased it, still happy with it.
