Then I realized Lon Chaney Jr. has met his eternal destiny some 40 + years ago.
I didn't get to go where I intended to photograph the blood moon. It was predicted to be cloudy. Then just before the eclipse was full, the sky cleared. This was in my backyard, with lots of city type light. I didn't want to get a closeup, because I wanted to include as many stars as possible. This picture was made on a tripod. Lens was at 210 mm f5.3 ISO 400 Shutter at 1 second. A little post processing and brightening the dimmer stars.

Yup, that's what it looked like!! Great shot
Beautiful! So that's what I missed! Too cold and too high in the sky and too late for me, although it was surpisingly clear here for a change. Minus 20 here, already below zero by eclipse time. I'm a wimp.
Thank you all. BTW I did it with a D5600 and a 70-300 mm kit lens. I forgot to put that in my description.

You have proven that less expensive lenses can perform well. I like the wide field with the stars, it makes it look like the moon is floating in space...well I guess it is. Good job.
