Just went back to my flickr account and noticed most of my albums have vanished, only a stock photo appears. Anybody else having similar problems? I contacted flickr and waiting for their response.
A. I do hope you had them stored elsewhere also.
B. SmugMug took over Flickr last April and there were a bunch of notices all over the web about rule changes and things you needed to do.
C. How long had it been since you checked your account? It might have timed out from inactivity.
I don't use Flickr, SmugMug or any other on line site or cloud storage. I have my photos on a HDD, the external drive with my whole system backup and some of them on other external drives and memory cards.
Long ago in the early days of cloud storage I read an article by a photographer who did work for Nat Geo, Smithsonian etc. He was working with a crew of anthropologists in far western China doing a study of Nomadic Herders. they had no communications, on line access etc. Battery chargers and computers ran off gasoline generators and some early solar tech. The group had deals with a scientific journal, Nat Geo and Smithsonian for articles after the study was done. He and one or two others would come back east to a major city about every 6 weeks, get fuel, supplies etc. He would store his photos on one of the early cloud sites (he was editing on a laptop-a lot of pretty slow work back then). Well shortly after one of his trips and uploading of his edited photos an e-mail went out to everyone that the company had gone bankrupt, was taken over by another and the new owner gave everyone 30 days to open an account with them or download their images. Then they were reformatting the servers and setting them up for their software. Well six weeks later he came to the city, logged on and found he was 1 week to late. He did have a bunch of his best work on memory cards and that last 6 weeks, after he had come to know the Nomads better and made friends/gained their trust and was able to put his photo essays together. But he had lost over 1000 edited photos that could not be redone exactly the same way from the early days with the Nomads.
I was a bit skeptical of the cloud storage thing to begin with and after that I have never even considered using it. I post, but I have multiple copies of those images and all my others on two different internal drives and one or two external drives.
My old buddy Murphy just gets too much leverage if my stuff was stored on the cloud.

Do you have the unpaid version? The unpaid version is now limited, I believe, to 1000 images.
I have the free version plus I had less then 1000 photos posted there. I do have them saved on my drive. It's been about 3mos since I last visted the site.
