Good build...

I'd use Win10 Pro and a 2080Ti Video Card (nearly the same as my new desktop). For data storage a mechanical drive is good (and do backups; nothing is forever, earthling). I was going to use a SSD in addition to the M.2 and my son suggested using a second M.2, both 512GB PCIe. If given a choice, applications are installed on the second M.2 with OS, drivers, etc. on the first.

Should have added that there are some programs that 'stress test' a build... processor, memory and video card. Run these for a while to see that things are 'solid'. If a hardware failure, it will likely occur within the first week or two, else build will likely last for years.

Weird, never heard this before. OS should always been on first drive with drivers. 512GB drives aren't big enough for photo work, especially storage.

My only suggestion is to substitute an SSD for the hard drive. Boot time, upgrades, and downloads are soooo fast.

He specified an M2 SSD PLUS a larger SATA drive.

Go with Windows 10 Pro

For an individual user (not on a corporate network), what features of Win 10 pro do you feel are important?

The specs look great, now for a good monitor.

and a PCIe, too... nearly 4x faster than a SATA SSD.

Yep. For example, Samsung’s 970 PCIe M.2 was benchmarked at 3.3GB/sec reads and 2.4GB/sec writes compared to SATA-connected SSD performance which typically averages ~600 MB/sec.

See attached... the old build is nearly 5 years old, before M.2 became common... had to order it from Australia.

Looks like a good configuration - I would personally consider changing the DVD drive to a BluRay / MDisk drive (which will read/write to CDs/DVDs as well). Minimal cost difference and the ability to archive to MDisks.

Even though more expensive, I would suggest the nvme version of the M.2 drive which is faster yet than the M.2 you've specified. The 512 gb size is more than enough for your OS and programs. Looks like a terrific photo editing system!

It's a great build but the GPU seems sculptured as a gaming machine. I'd shop for a decent CPU cooler. Intel's i7-8700 runs warm. The above poster suggested the K model and if you go that route I wouldn't use a Hyper 212 unless you run at stock settings. A little pricier but well worth it would be the Noctua NH-D15S. Just check for compatibility on their website first. It dwarfs the 212.

Unless I'm mistaken, Premiere Pro does all it's processing in RAM, so why does a fast SSD drive make any difference?

All digital computers do their processing in RAM.

The Samsung 970 Pro is NVMe M.2 PCIe x4 SSD, and the ASRock motherboard accepts two of these... I just have to figure out how to get them to write faster.
