Battery Stuck!

I have a Canon xsi. Well this morning I turned it on and the battery was dead so I took it out and grabed the "extra battery" from my bag. I've never actually used the extra battery before. Well I guess it isn't actually made for my camera because I put it in and turned it on and nothing happened. When I tried to get it out it is stuck. I have no clue how to get it out. It went in easy but sure won't come out. There isn't enough room around the edges to grab ahold of it. Any suggestions?

Try sticking a little duct tape on the exposed bottom and try to pull the battery out a bit.

I had to do that on my T2i when the battery swelled up.

How about a piece of duct tape. Stick it on the end of the battery and wiggle it back an forth, with the battery compartment facing down.

Car went in to garage easy, but can not back it out? Oh, the door is closed. There has to be something grabbing like a contact spring etc. Check out a like camera and see what is in the battery well. Make sure you have pushed the battery lach to release position.

Duct tape would have little grip; instead attach by strong epoxy a large nut almost as wide as the battery. Be sure to roughen both surfaces before adding MINIMAL amount of epoxy to both surfaces (excess would glue battery into camera...disaster). After the epoxy has hardened for a day use pliers. Be sure to hold the battery lock to the "free" position. Good luck... remember, it is not a supernatural event, rather it is mechanical.

Thanks, the battery must not actually be made for my camera because it doesn't work and is fully charged. It was bought on ebay as an extra. Glad I didn't try it when I really needed it. I will try your method because the duct tape didn't work. It's stuck in there good! Thanks again!

Normally there is a small latch or finger that needs to be manually pushed aside and the battery should pop up so you can grab it to pull out.

A Google search turns up many others who've had the same problem. One photog epoxy glued a flat head wood screw to the battery to pull it out. Close examination showed the non-OEM to be a tad thicker than original.

Never buy or insert an off brand Batt. Pay the price & get original equipment & you will seldom be in that position.
I bought 1 off brand battery, it failed in less than 6 months. I have OE batteries that I've had for 7 years & they still hold a charge & work just fine.

Thanks we were able to get the battery out of the camera and it looks swollen... it was bowed out a little. Why would it be like that?

Sounds like it got hot for some reason. It should be replaced. It would be best to get a battery made by the camera maker and not an off label make. Check out the function of the camera for possible damage from an over heating condition.

Now is the time you walk over to the trash can throw that battery away.
Some times the catch that holds the battery in the camera can be a little difficult and might need a gentle, and gently is the keyword nudge to release the battery.
As has been said cheap batteries from an ebay seller, could certainly damage your camera and you may have dodged a bullet so to speak by getting the battery out of your camera.
