It's actually the Firehole River that runs between the area of the Grand Prismatic Spring and the Grand Loop.
(It could possibly be a near by run-off area as well.)

The best place to photograph the spring is from the backside observation hill. Before they built it, I had climbed the steep hill. (My best side.)

The vantage point is much better and unobstructed now, but those pics are on another computer.
