I'd say that it just goes to prove the old adage "that it's the photographer and not the camera". Nice stuff.

Have you considered upscaling rather than just cropping?
A couple of my favorite shots I got with my cell phone, and I'm grateful I at least had that to capture the fleeting moments.
Oh, and you said Long Beach. I got mugged in Long Beach once upon a time. You might ought to be grateful you didn't have your DSLR on you.
