Just curious can you hurt this camera (or any other DSLR) by leaving it a hot car?

The manual says "working temp between 32 & 104 degrees, but what about exposing it to temp extremes?

Probably a fudge factor but I wouldn't push it.

One thing about DSLR's all you have to do is push a button and see a jpg of your exposure. Battery life is another thing. I always carry 3 or 4 in an inside pocket.

On batteries, alway have a cover on the terminals so an occasional coin or anything else metallic doesn't have the opportunity to short them out.

Shock or fire would be nasty in a pocket.

I wouldn't push it at either end of the temp range. A car can get over 120F in the summer sun.

As for batteries, I use cases like these. http://www.amazon.com/Bright-Orange-Battery-Reminder-Markings/dp/B002UQWGM2/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1344948287&sr=1-2&keywords=aa+battery+case

Texas tempatures present a problem. Where do you keep your camera and lens. I shoot both indoors and outside and fogging is a problem. I keep my equipment in a locked box on my patio where the temp is around 90. Anyone else have any ideas?

What do you consider extremes to be and under what actual conditions? I would consider anything over 104F to be the start of possible damage to the camera. Materials expand as they get hot which can lead to binding conditions on moving parts and also openings to happen which allows moisture to enter the camera. All not good things. If any lubricants are used in the camera or rubber type seals are used they can bake and be permanently harmed. If you suspect that any of these things have happened it is best to have the camera serviced.

I once stuck a 9 volt in my pocket while standing on a ladder to change the fire alarm's batteries. You wouldn't believe just how fast and hot a few coins can get when they complete the circuit.

Leaving a camera inside near a window where the sun can shine on it can potentially be a problem. Its best to pay attention to where you set your gear down.

Eyes can also "shine" on goods left in the open.
