Taken a few years ago when we lived in Idaho.
Though I don't live very far away, I've never visited. You seem to have found perfect locations from which to show not just the colors, but textures and depth - layers and layers of interest. Beautiful series!
I really like the diverse color divisions.
Well done.

Amazing - all from the placement of different elements and minerals.
I didn't know that existed. Can you tell me where you were when you shot this? Or is it a secret?

To be technically correct, Painted Hills is one of three units of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, located in Wheeler County, Oregon. If I remember correctly, the last photo was taken in one of the other units.
Regarding where I was when I took the photos....for Painted Hills, there are trails through and around the hills. For the last photo, I believe it was taken from a sidewalk lookout by a parking lot.
Many people take panoramic photos of Painted Hills...I wasn’t doing those at the time....I would now.
