It was a short trip indeed. A chilly day for South Florida with temperatures in the upper 40's. I headed toward Shark Valley at the North Eastern corner of the park via Hway 41 West, a 25 min. ride from where I live.
Not many photographers there and very few birds, the majority of them anhingas. I was very disappointed because this is supposed to be the peak season for bird watching and photography at the park. I met a photographer who told me that the day before the place was crowded with birds. He could not understand why that place was deserted when the day before there were plenty of birds to photograph.

I really struggled to get these shots. I decided to return home and try some other day.

On my way home I stopped by this picturesque place that happened to be closed (?) when we are in the mid of the tourist season. Go figure! This place takes tourists to a section of the Everglades to the side of the highway and you can see "the river of grass" behind it. I believe it is operated by a Miccosukee Indian called Buffalo Tiger. He offers air boat rides to tourists. It called my attention the colors and that beautiful Indian ornament over the fence so I snapped a few shots and I am posting two of them here.

I am sorry I could not do better. The first shot is a great blue heron. The second one is an anhinga.

Well I’ve been to Shark Valley quite a lot and most of the birds are outside the park! They are on the short road that leads into the park. The time of the day is also important, you need to be there before sunrise or before sunset
I saw a painted bunting but I was not quick enough to capture it.
Another tip when you enter the park keep to your left and walk that road as many miles as you can and look at the vegetation to your right and be patient, the birds are there but hiding. They will come out early in the day or late in the day
As always be careful when approaching the small body of water between the road and the vegetation it has a lot of alligators keep your distance
Good luck

I was at Monroe Station at the west end of the Loop Road on Tuesday. Quite a few birds were down the road at the big curve.
Vultures, Greens, Great whites and a few tricolors.

Wacodahattchee has lots of wood stork, GBH, Tricolors.
Peaceful Waters has about 30 Spoonies and Loxahatchee has snail Kites and Green Cay has a few Spoonies.

Saw them all this week.
