Love your explanation, 2 tours in Nam and several TDY's, HQ in Da Nang, too many hours in a Huey. We'll be driving back up to AK in May. Love the wildlife photo ops.

Am I the only Vietnam Vet who hates the "Thank you for your service" knee jerk sophism? I understand there may be nothing better to say, but that one always angers me.

I agree that it has become sort of a trite phrase, but I think in most cases it is heart-felt. So what would you like us to say?

Pentax Spotmatic. Took it out on ambush patrol a few times. Must have been rugged. B&W and color.

Wingpilot, thank you for your service! I actually just sent your photo to an old friend who was a helicopter pilot in VN around the same time. I was wondering if he might know you ..... :) I'll let you know.

I was going through some old photos and found this one. I just took a photo of the print. It was taken of me, in 1971 in S. Vietnam. I was an army captain assigned as a helicopter pilot with the 213th Aviation Company, flying CH-47 Chinook helicopters. If I recall, I set this one up on a tripod and developed it in the company darkroom. I thought is kind of embodied how we all felt at the time. I took pride in my roll as a pilot, supporting the troops on the ground in any way we could. I think by that time we were all tired and worn out, both those on the ground and those in the air. I know there are a number of Hogs who flew over there--Hueydriver and a few other, as well as all those we supported who were on the ground--the Grunts as they were affectionally known. I can't say that this is a wonderful photo, but I would dedicate this to all who served over there. I guess that's why I've saved a lot of old photos from those days.

This brings back memories both good and bad. I was one of the grunts on the ground. I regret I never got to thank the medevac pilot who pulled me out on a jungle penetrator even as all hell broke loose on the ground.

You guys dropped us off into the trouble, but got most of us out at end of mission.

So, I thank you as a representative for all who supported us grunts.

Welcome Home Brother
DMZ from the China Sea to Laotian Border Dec 67 to Dec 68 carried a Instamatic 104 and a 8mm movie camera. Lost most of my pictures so i love when others post their pictures. I have a love hate relationship with the choppers. They took us into places (the hate part) but you guys always came to get us out no matter the circumstances (love part). Great Picture.

i agree, nice photo and warm narrative. If you have the time and inclination i think you deserve to return! Government needs a little more maturing, but the people--still so great!! Smart, ambitious, hard working and looking to the future. For a quick study--google search PhuQuoc Marriott!
