A couple of little ones ...
Pretty. How do you get them to pose so nicely, lol? Seriously, do you use a blind?

Well done! Amazing how they endure these freezing temps and wind.
Thanks Carla.
I feel guilty when the weather is bad if I don't get out early enough to feed them breakfast. The day it snowed I put sunflower seeds in the feeder. Then I turned around to load the stump up with peanut butter. When I turned back there were birds all over the place, even right at my feet.
They are not supposed to become dependent, but nobody gave these birds the book of rules.

Thanks Red.
This time of year I shoot these little guys from my garage. It's more to keep me out of the wind than to act as a blind. The birds know I'm there and occasionally land on the window sill a couple of feet from me. The key, as I see it, is giving them food and protection. Then give them a place to land that looks ok in a photo. The perch in these photos is set about a foot and a half above and behind the food. They land there to look at the food before jumping in.
The background barberry bush not only looks decent but gives them protection. Some of the birds go into the bush when the Coopers Hawk comes in. Turns out they are safer there than trying to fly away.

Thank you for the details! I hope I have time to shoot birds (ooo, that sounds hostile) before too long. I can only offer bird feeders during the colder months because of the bears.

You reminded me of something that made me chuckle. I belonged to a club that had been granted it's own section on a photography site. We were asked to introduce ourselves and mention the type of photography we like.
With no intention of being funny one of our members honestly posted, "I'm a New York City cop and I shoot birds". He later changed shoot to photograph.
