Basic Clean up has its dangers also, this happened to me while brush hogging one morning .

The outcome could have been much worse had I been going faster and on the 2 lane blacktop road which quite a bit of cars and trucks and other farm equipment used every day (55 mph speed limit)

2 3/4 inch bolts and nuts are all that holds the front axle in place ( kinda scary now ya think of it )

Scary indeed! We had the hitch break once while hauling a full forage wagon. The wagon caught the tread of the back tire and rolled right up onto the fender of the open cab tractor. Thankfully, it tipped away from the tractor/driver/husband. We feel very blessed to be able to continue this lifestyle, but must always remain on our toes regarding safety!

You would think there would be at least two bolts for safety reasons.

Well there are 2 , 1 front and 1 rear, is the design so axle will swivel up down over irregular surfaces

Well it was a pretty simple repair hard part was getting the axle back under the tractor and in position to insert the bolts n torque properly .

Hard job was replaceing a tie rod end on a combines rear steering axle with almost a full hopper of corn while it was sitting in the corn field .

Thanks for the clarification, jaymatt. I thought he was saying 2¾" bolts, which would have been substantial. But it looks like two ¾ inch bolts not so much based on the outcome.
