What is the best place to buy genuine canon LP-6E batteries. I understand that third party batteries to not last very long so not worth the savings.

Try buying them online direct from a reputable retailer. I will visit the store and pick up extras

I’ve gotten them from Best Buy and also my local photo store which orders them for me. I think you can also get them through Amazon.
I had a couple 3rd party ones but let them go when I sold my 6D.

Iv'e used 3rd party (vivatar) batterys for 5 years in my 7d (original). Never had a problem

I can't advise on the best place, but I have not had any bad experiences with Ravpower or Power2000 batteries. I think you mean the Canon LP-E6. Which camera is it for? For the newer ones the LP-E6N is recommended.

I've bought both OEM and aftermarket versions at Best Buy. I've even popped a few open and replaced the worn out cells. Point of interest, Canon does not make the batteries inside their battery. You may buy high quality replacement cells (batteries) and install them in the Canon battery case a lot cheaper than buying a new battery from Canon, if you're into that sort of thing.

Not sure why you "understand" such a thing. I have both Canon and off-brand batteries and cannot tell them apart in use. Have never had a "bad" battery. I would much rather pay $15 than $65 for an equivalent item. I have plenty, always keep a few charged, so never a problem.

As you know you can read to much on the internet and most of the opinions say only use oem batteries because of the quality difference. Just passing along what I have read and asking for an opinion. I don't mind spending the extra money if there is a value attached.

you can always buy from canon.com/store. They are $68. Amazon listed their Canon battery for $60 for the above mentioned battery.
Mixed results, I just threw out a Canon battery that came with myCanon 5d4, Only lasted about 5000 shots, But then I had another last 3 years with over 10,000 shots. I have also tried other batteries in the $25 range with various results though I have not kep prcise records of shots and duration of useful life.

Used non-OEM batts forever. A fraction of the price and no problems at all. Get them on ebay from a high-scoring domestic seller with a good return policy.

Nothing wrong with 3rd party batteries if you get them from a reputable supplier. If you read the fine print you will notice that Canon's batteries are not made by Canon but by Panasonic. A reputable supplier. The really cheap batteries you can find on Amazon and others are just that: really cheap. They often will not have the ability to talk to your camera resulting in error messages and so on. Sometimes the camera won't even power up.
I have two 3rd party batteries. A Watson and a Power2000. Both are LP-E6. They worked perfectly in my previous Canons. A 70D, a 6D and a 7DII. They work perfectly in my current cameras, a 5DIV and an EOS R that I just bought. In fact, the only battery failure I have ever had was a brand new Canon LP-E6 that would not take a charge from day one.
BTW, LP-E6 and LP-E6N batteries are interchangeable. Any Canon that can use one can use the other and the same charger works for both.
