It's my doggie and that's the sun.
I like it with the backlighting on the bushes and dog. Maybe tone down the sun a bit?
Normally I don't look at a photo with "Just" in the title. If you (or anyone) are going to be dismissive of your work, why even post it?
I think the shot is fantastic; it's not over-exposed (for the story it's telling) and it's not merely "kinda" cool. So now that we have the language covered: I was immediately drawn to the big bright sun, centered in the frame, with those perfectly angled flares. A strong visual element to snag our attention.
There's a great sense of place with the distant mountain, scrubby brush and railroad track. The dog's position suggests it has just alerted to something in the distance and that it might bolt at any second to investigate. The triangle made by the dog, sun and largest bush hold everything together.
I really like this, Mark,
JUST in case you weren't sure
With the dog in it, it is a winner, Mark! Very artistic.
Thanks for looking NMGal. I'll give the sun toning a try, but that's where I end up screwing up a photo. I'm not all that good at post processing and usually destroy the picture.

Thanks for the input, Linda. My word terminology would make Webster turn in his grave, but some non words should be words...at least in my mind.

Ahh, I knew a fan of dogs would come through. Thanks Mike.
