This is a good subject and the shot will be even better if you shoot it in better light when the side of the hill facing you isn't in shadow.

Love your composition! I think the light and shadow add a great deal to the interest, but then I usually seek out dramatic light and weather. The peak is spotlighted, as is the red barn, and the clouds appear to be lit from below. Our eyes are drawn to the most important aspects of the image, and the shadows emphasize the "folds" of the sunlit portions of the mountain. Terrific work IMO.

I agree, however as long as I have been watching the morning and evening light on the sandstone it has never happened because of the sun rising above the terrain after the "magic light time" That being said I'm always taking another shot in hopes of better light.

I like the variation in light on the mountain. I think it's a great photo.

To me, the light from low and to the side is what makes the image happen. Vegetation on the mountain seems to be fairly bland and featureless. Flat light from behind or overhead would likely reduce the mountain to just a bright silhouette.

Really good color and impact.

Did you get some Aplets and Cotlets?

That is exactly what I observe as the sun tracks across the valley, Larry. I find that there are not very many combinations that work as the sun passes thru the day and the seasons. The bigest variable is how the sun passes through the clouds in combination with the cloud cover to the west (rainy side of the Cascades)

Really good color and impact.

Thank you !!

I pass by the factory nearly every day without much thought to picking up their candy, as my days of too many sweets are over. I once had a conversation with the president (he married into the family) about the amount of sugar he bought for his products.

Great shot. Wonderful tonal range and color. Love the farm buildings in the foreground in contrast to undeveloped nature in background. Nice contrasts of colors, subjects and lighting.
