I have posted here on UHH a number of bird photos taken with the Tamron 150x600MM G2 lens. In all my postings the lens was attached to a Nikon D500 which I purchased primarily for bird photography. I also have a Nikon D810 and while I haven't done it yet, I am considering giving it a try in crop mode with this lens. Many UHH members like the Nikon 200x500MM lens and I see lots of very good shots made with that lens attached to a variety of different bodies. It would not be a mistake to choose either lens. I went with the Tamron because I really wanted the additional 100MM of reach. The Tamron lens is well built, acquires focus pretty fast and is delivering hand held images of birds in flight that I am relatively happy with.
As a general statement about Tamron. I believe they are the largest individual lens (the single piece of glass) makers in the world and sell the lenses to the other companies. That does not make the a great "CAMERA LENS" maker but they make good glass.
Just back from a photo trip to Africa - used the G2 on a 5D Mark IV and also a 70D. Was glad to have the lens with - it was excellent. No noticeable distortion at max 600mm. Lots of light so there was no speed problems. Also had a Canon 70-200 f2.8 and few other lenses and filters but the G2 was the go to lens in the field. If it worked well on a Canon I'm sure it would work well on a Nikon.

I have my 150-600 G2 on a Nikon D750 and it works fine. No complaints from my end.
I shoot with a Nikon D810 and the Tamron 150-600mm G2 version lens. This is a great combination especially considering that I shoot handheld. The 2 photos were shot at ISO: 2500, 600mm, F8, 1/1250. Distance of the first photo was approximately 200' and the second one about 125'. The second one was cropped.
If you purchase, then the only version to buy is the Tamron G2 version- otherwise you will not be happy! and also- do the micro adjustment on the lens!!
I think you can get it cheaper than you suggested.
I have the G2 since it's a little lighter, an extra 100mm and a few bucks less. Focus was off, just got it back from Tamron and it's a decent lens now but it is really soft at 600. I'm going to sell it or trade it in for the 500 pf.
How does the Tamron 150-600 compare to the Sigma?

I have had my 500 pf on back order since August. And I am a member of Nikon Professional Services and still can't get my paws on this lens.

Wow, I wonder how Steve Perry got one so early, could his thorough review have boosted demand? The 300mm pf is so sharp, light and compact, I got spoiled.
I have the original Tamron 150- 600 Nikon mount. Didn’t use it a lot but really liked it. I now have a Nikon Z6 and the original version will not work with it. It also cannot be updated. It is in excellent shape. Anyone know what the resale value is?
