OK, so I'm happily post-processing pics of flowers and bugs when (Oh, NO!), my girlfriend, knowing I've just dropped big bucks for a DSLR, says, "Take my picture", at which point I immediately know that I know NOTHING about portraits. So I tell her, "Just as soon as I finish what I'm working on." I think I was reading posts on here at the time. ;-)
After a frantic Google search for everything from Portrait Tips to Greenscreens, I ran across some interesting images of "Zuki Dolls", posable ball-jointed dolls, I think from Korea. Cool, so I'll get a couple of these to show her what kind of pose would be good. WRONG! These things sell for $160 to $800+.
Well, anyway, I did get some good ideas for poses by just Googling "Zuki Dolls", or "Zukizuki dolls", or just "ball jointed dolls". After all, it takes some pretty good photos to sell a 4-inch plastic/resin doll for $400!!!
Well, have a good weekent, what's left of it. :-D :-D
Or we could just wait to see the shots that you post from your portrait sessions, then we will know how the dolls pose ;)

Hi OddJobber: Here is a website thst gives some great examples on how to pose people, it's easy to follow and understand. It starts with examples on how to pose couples but covers posing Men, Women and Children as well.
http://digital-photography-school.com/posing-guide-21-sample-poses-to-get-you-started-with-photographing-couples Hope this helps.
All females are natural posers, even babies. The only difference is some are better at it than others. If you've spent much time with this girlfriend and you have a born talent to do portraits, then you have noticed times when she looks special. It could come at any time and you need to watch for it and when it happens, try to capture that look. Knowing how a camera works is also a must.
With what may seem to be a simple snapshot, (done right) can become a beautiful portrait.
When you get this shot, please post it so we can see it.
How about saying that you know nothing about portrait photography and would love to learn if she would be your model.

Jim Peters (Over 40 Years In Portrait,Event,And Commercial
Photography)-- Wow! Although I plan to stay strictly amateur, Professional Photographer digital magazine at $20/year looks like a good resource, too.
Most Untrained Models Need Direction. If I Wouldn't Of Had The Model Above Become Aware Of Her Posture,Arch Her Back,And Point Her Toes. The Above Wouldn't Have The Impact That It Does.
Most People Want To Slouch.YOU Have to Make Them Aware Of It.
As For Magazines Yes They can Be A good Resource. If you Have Some From The Early 90s, You Might Find My Name On Some Of Them.
There is an i-phone app for posing.

Great picture.
Senior Photographers of America is not a good name. Do they take pictures of seniors? If so, are the seniors over 55, or are they about to graduate from high school? Maybe they are the "experienced" photographers. Maybe they are photographers who are over 55. Maybe all those conditions apply. :?:
As for me, I quit the PPA because I found them a bit too far from actual professionals. It was their magazine which convinced me they had no experience in publications, and no pre-press knowledge, something all modern photographers must have if professionally oriented. Publishing amateurish mistakes ON THEIR COVER was simply not forgivable.
Jim if you posed that model from the right that would have been a GREAT shot
