Folks like you are the first to complain when their LCS goes out of business. You realize that you are legally liable for paying the sales tax on your tax return? Also, the Ohio department of taxation monitors sites like this to catch tax dodgers.

"In general, the sales tax is a transaction tax, with the liability for the tax arising at the time of the transaction. It is also a “consumer tax” in that the person required to collect tax, the seller, must collect it from the buyer when collecting the sales price for the transaction to which the tax applies".

"The Ohio sales and use tax applies to the retail sale, lease, and rental of tangible personal property as well as the sale of selected services in Ohio. In transactions where sales tax was due but not collected by the vendor or seller, a use tax of equal amount is due from the customer.

The state sales and use tax rate is 5.75 percent. Counties and regional transit authorities may levy additional sales and use taxes. For more information about the sales and use tax, look at the options below".

Don't live in Ohio.

Local outlets first, then B&H, Adorama, Cameta, Hunt's, (new or used), or if used is OK then MPB.com, KEH, Usedphotopro (Roberts)….. Walmart. Amazon & Best Buy, and if you go Walmart or Amazon try to stick with "fulfilled" by Amazon or Walmart, since the 3rd party sellers can be more of a pain to deal with. Good luck!

All that says is if you don’t pay the tax at the time of the sale, you are still on the hook. The Ohio state return has a section to deal with this.

I drove 90 miles to the closest camera store to check out the 18-400...got them to match on line prices with the Tap In Console...but was $50 higher due to taxes. The deal breaker for me was their return policy...10 days for in-store credit only. Went home and ordered it from Adorama. I'm in the process of doing the 'Tap In' focus adjustment...a real trick. Hoping to give it a good field test today.

I concur with this answer even though I approve of camera stores they must provide good service and help you with your issues. I've become disillusioned with my camera store from poor service and indifference and have gone back to B&H and Adorama.

I got the Tamron 18-400 a year or so ago and like it very much. My only concerns are low light shots and that it's a bit cumbersome for being my walk around lens so I'm looking at a much shorter/faster walk around lens but will keep the 18-400 for longer needs.

I bought mine from Adorama, B+H had it also for the same price of $649.00. @ weeks ago I was in a local Cardinal Camera store and they had it for $599.00. I use mine almost all the time with a Nikon d7100.

I’ve dealt with all of them and got great deals. My last purchase was with Roberts, got the Tamron 150-600 G2 used. It came with everything and I couldn’t tell it was used. They also have a good warranty and return policy on used equipment.

I bought mine at Best Buy. The sales person gave a 10% store discount. They had to order it , but they had it delivered to my house 3 days later. My other suggestion would be to order it directly from Tamron if possible. I do love this lens.

If you are in the Boston area, I will add Hunt's Photo along with B&H and Adorama.

Wow! My camera store has a 30 day return policy and they give you back your money. As far as tuning goes, yes its a pain, but well worth the time and effort. Here are a couple of things I found out. Need to use a tripod, remote release or use the timer, aperture wide open. Make sure you have a good focus target, take a live view shot, this will be the sharpest image the camera and lens can take. Now take about 3 AF shots moving the focus ring off a bit before every shot so its forced to refocus before every shot. You need to take 3 or even 5 shots because AF isn't perfect and can be off a bit on any given shot. Now compare your best AF shot to the LV shot and tune until they match. This works well for the close and middle distance. PM me if you want to talk about how to tune at infinity.

I find the tuning of 300mm and above lenses a chore with any of the "docks".
The issues for me are:

1-Distance. I live in a home, not a long tunnel.
2- Consistent lighting. I do not do studio work, so I do not have a bunch of lights that I can set up in the tunnel that I don't have.

I do my micro focus adjustments outside, when the weather is better using Focal. Fast, easy, automatic. It even gives me the best aperture to use at the near and far settings of the lens.

For me, the best use of the dock is to keep the firmware up to date.
Your mileage may vary......

Did Hunt’s Photo used to be on the second floor of a drug store in Malden, Ma..? I went there a few times when I was stationed at Ft Devens 40 years ago.

Greentoe. You bid and if they accept, you get it for that price.
