Can you tell which has fake fog and which is real? Please be sure to tell me how you determined, in as much detail as you can. Thanks very much!

Here's a different way to go for fog. I've uploaded two versions of the same (originally, fogless) photo. The first was modified using NIK HDR EFEX's fog effect. The issue is that the fog obscures the subject too much. The second was editing in Lightroom using the Adjustment Brush. I painted around the heron, then lowered the Dehaze and Clarity sliders to their minimums. I did that a couple of times. I probably should have put a little fog on the heron, buy you still see the general idea.

I've seen fog that is thick close to the ground, and whispy farther up in the strata. I've never seen fog that is as clearly delineated as the second shot where there is thick fog on the ground and also slightly above ground; but sharp in between. My guess is that the second shot is fake.

Thanks so much for this demo! One thing I've learned while driving around the countryside in real fog is there are many, many "looks." You might want to also post this in Ernie Misner's main forum topic if that's where you saw the link to my topic
