Lightroom presets and Photoshop Filter menu

I recently processed a raw (orf) file in Lightroom and added a preset. Then I opened the image in Photoshop for further processing. However I found the entire filter menu was "grayed out" and unavailable. I then reprocessed the image in lightroom without adding a preset, finished the editing in Photoshop and found that the filter items were available. Same result with another image. Both Lightroom and Photoshop are latest additions used with Windows 10.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Sounds like the preset is changing the file type to a type that Photoshop does not like.

A lot of Photoshop's filter activity can only be performed on an 8-bit image. You were probably working on a 16-bit image. If you want to get at the grayed out stuff, you'll have to convert the image to 8-bit. It's not really a big deal to do.

There is a known problem in PS 2019, where launching it out of LR results in numerous menu items being greyed out. Adobe is aware of the issue, but as yet has not issued a fix. There are a couple of workarounds:

1. Open PS 2019 first, before launching LR, or
2. Reinstall PS 2018 and use that when you need to use PS out of LR. PS 2018 and PS 2019 can both be installed on the same system, so you could use PS 2019 if you're not going there from LR.

Many thanks for your suggestions. I tried the first solution and it works.
Easy enough fix.

I have found that when I launch PS from LR the first image cannot be processed fully in PS. However, if I close the image but not PS and go back to LR and once again go to edit in PS everything is available in PS. It makes no sense but it seems to work.
