I have a Canon Powershot SX30 IS and I am looking for a good starter book that will teach me good info on photography such as aperture, lighting, shutter, etc. Also if there is a specific book for my camera bc it didn't come with much. Anyway I am wanting to get serious about my pictures and I really want to learn the settings on the camera not just hope and pray for a good picture :) Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

Bryan Peterson has several books on understanding exposure. Communicates well in "layman's" terms.

Hi Aklealea123: Scott Kelby's series called "The Digital Photography Book" Designated as book 1, book 2 and book 3. Will take you step by step on a variety of phototaking info. The nice part about them is they are easy to follow and understand. He explains things just as if he were there standing beside you sharing his tips and techniques. He doesn't fed you a lot of formulas but starts with the basics then gives you a reason for his recommendation. You can find them on line through Abes Books for sometimes as low as a buck each. http://www.abebooks.com/ Hope this helps.

Everyone has given you great advise about books on photography technique, especially with the Bryan Peterson books. But don't forget, you still need to read your owners manual for the camera and become familiar with what settings the camera has and how to adjust them. Canon typically does not include this as a hard copy book in the box, but as a PDF file on the software CD that came with the camera.

Ask plenty of questions here at UHH. Plenty of very experienced people here willing to help.
