Local pond. Not the best shot but she's a pretty gal.

Really a lovely shot, Paul. The only change I would have made was to have placed Mrs Mallard in the left side of the frame so she has her head turned toward the far side. Just a suggestion though.

I did think of that Donna but didn’t think it was such a great exposure and sort of went, “Aw, what the heck.” There is no room in the frame as shot to open up the right side so I moved the left border to the right in a minor crop. Being lazy I guess.

I had a feeling you already knew that, Paul, because you took care with how you placed her in the frame. I'm very hesitant to offer suggestions and relieved you didn't take offense.

Very nice, Paul and think that the hens have such a soft understated beauty.

There’s a reason I’m not thrilled with this shot. Largely the framing. There were dozens of mallards and a smattering of widgeons around. I was having some difficulty getting framed on singles birds as others were continuously showing up in the back or foreground. I don’t own a long zoom, only primes so I can be limited in framing choices. So in my effort to keep it to the single bird I framed her well to the right knowing her head was pointing the other way but eliminating a bird to the left. I did catch that one’s tail and cropped that out. I was pleased enough with the color and the late afternoon light from the left I decided to process it. All part of the enjoyment of the hobby I guess, knowing one sometimes needs to compromise and catch what one can. In any event it was an enjoyable outing only a few miles from home.

Not an offensive observation at all Donna. I agree with you in fact. Trust me, after 31 years on the street in public safety, it takes much more than such a suggestion to offend me. Oh, some tales I could tell!

Thanks. Yeah I like the hens too, especially when you can catch some decent light on them.
